Surgeons in New York announced Thursday that they've performed the world's first whole-eye transplant in a human.
The surgery is being hailed as a breakthrough. However, the patient has not regained sight in the eye.
In the six months since the surgery that was performed during a partial face transplant, the grafted eye has shown signs of health including well-functioning blood vessels, according to the surgical team at NYU Langone Health.
