The New York Daily News is cutting its editorial staff by half.
Former employees told BBC News the layoffs would mean about 40 newsroom workers will continue to be employed at the tabloid.
The cuts come less than a year after the tabloid was purchased by Tronc, which has a reputation for low newsroom investment, according to BBC News.
