New 'sunny' destination on tap for Springfield airport

Posted online
Springfield-Branson National Airport said today that Allegiant Air would begin offering nonstop service to a new destination this spring.

The low-fare airline already provides nonstop service from Springfield to Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. On its Web site, Allegiant says the "sunny new destination" will be available from Springfield and 11 other cities.

Allegiant is expected to reveal the destination in about two weeks, the airport said. The new service should begin around the same time the airport's new midfield terminal opens May 6.

Allegiant is holding a "Guess Allegiant's New Destination" contest on its Web site. Winners will be put in a drawing for free roundtrip tickets. To submit a guess, visit the link below.

The airport only said to "think big" in regard to what the destination could be.
