Nutty Munkey Frozen Custard, 3558 S. Campbell, is on the market, though Vice President of Franchising Steve Gurney said there are no plans to close, even as the sale takes place.
No interested buyers have come forward since the intent to sell was announced on July 12, Gurney said. He said he’s even open to selling the building and allowing a buyer to move the store’s location.
Nutty Munkey is owned by a group of local investors. While the custard store’s concept has potential, Gurney said, it doesn’t fit with the investors’ brand portfolio, which includes seven restaurant concepts in five states.
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t mesh well with our other operations,” Gurney said in a news release. “While most of our restaurants are quick-serve or casual dining, the dessert-only aspect of Nutty Munkey made it an exception within our operating group.”
The Nutty Munkey franchise concept was developed in Oklahoma in 2003 and was moved to Springfield to be closer to the company’s other operations.
Ken Schwab of Wilhoit Properties is handling listing arrangements for the sale.
