Dozens of cities and states are enacting laws to protect tenants amid rising evictions, The Wall Street Journal reports.
In October, there were more than 48,000 eviction filings, a 24% increase from August. Filings began ticking up after a yearlong national eviction moratorium ended.
Twenty-one states and the District of Columbia have passed eviction-related legislation in 2021. A total of 40 states have proposed such laws.

Do those same laws protect the land owners when they can't make mortgage payments ? If the gov't makes a crazy law like "you don't have to pay your rent", they need to cough up the mortgage payments to the land owners.
