New leader takes reins at Habitat for Humanity

Posted online

Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri Inc. has installed a new executive director.

Chris Tuckness, who became executive director of the nonprofit earlier this month, was selected from 28 candidates and five finalists, according to a news release.

“During our search for the next executive director, the search committee asked the staff what they were looking for in their next executive director. We felt it was extremely important to find the best candidate that fit the needs of the staff and would be the best fit for the organization and team dynamic," said Jordan Hall, a Habitat for Humanity board member who chaired the search committee, in the release. "Chris Tuckness was exactly what the staff needed and wanted. He is someone who is committed to the HFH mission, collaborative, knowledgeable on the Springfield area, and has leadership skills that empowers teammates to grow and develop both personally and professionally."

Tuckness, whose career includes marketing and communications work for Mercy and JMark Business Solutions Inc., now leads a 28-employee nonprofit with annual revenues of roughly $2.5 million, according to its profile in Springfield Business Journal's 2021 Giving Guide publication. He became Habitat for Humanity's chief of staff in May.

"We have such a dedicated team of staff, volunteers and board of directors, and I look forward to working with all of them," Tuckness said in the release.

As Habitat of Humanity's executive director, Tuckness succeeds Jeff Nagy, who held the role briefly before his abrupt exit in June. A spokesperson did not respond by deadline on why Nagy left.

Habitat for Humanity has built or renovated more than 790 homes to place over 1,500 individuals since 1988, according to the release.
