The state of New Jersey filed suit against Exxon Mobil Corp.
The state's Department of Environmental Protection alleges the company dumped chemicals in South Jersey over a 70-year period.
An Exxon Mobil spokeswoman said the company is "surprised" by the lawsuit since the company has been working with the state to clean up the site in question.
