New general manager starts at Battlefield Mall

Battlefield Mall owner Simon Property Group promoted from within naming a new general manager for the shopping venue.

Charles Tarkington, a nearly 40-year Simon employee who most recently worked as general manager of McCain Mall in Little Rock, Ark., started at the Springfield mall May 4, according to a June 27 news release.

As general manager, Tarkington is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Battlefield Mall, including leasing, maintenance, business development, budgeting, security, tenant relations and marketing.

“His experience in management, business development, retail and marketing will be an asset to Battlefield Mall as the property continues to grow as one of the leading shopping destinations in the region," said Ron Hanson, senior vice president for Simon's central region, in the release.

Kelley Santiago, a spokeswoman working on behalf of Simon, said she didn't know why former Battlefield Mall General Manager Erik Fjeseth no longer holds the position. A LinkedIn page listed in Fjeseth's name has not been updated with a new position.
