“Sandy has set high professional standards for herself and due to concerns about her mother’s health and the need to remain closer to home (in Rolla), Sandy felt she would not be able to perform her required duties as chamber president to these standards and those set by the chamber,” the chamber said in a news release.
The chamber introduced Allison, the former Miami County, Kan., economic development director, to the community on Dec. 15. She was scheduled to begin work in Carthage on Jan. 2.
The chamber is seeking a replacement for Max McKnight, who resigned earlier this year to become president and CEO of the Chickasha Economic Development Council in Chickasha, Okla. Former Carthage Mayor Kenneth Johnson has filled the role on an interim basis.
Allison experienced personal tragedy after applying for the job. Her father died in a Springfield hospital on the day she was first scheduled to interview with the search committee. Her mother was later injured.
