New BNSF leader becomes first female CEO of major railroad

BNSF Railway on Monday appointed Kathryn Farmer as its new CEO.

The company's executive vice president of operations, Farmer becomes the first female CEO of a major U.S. railroad, according to Reuters.

She succeeds the retiring Carl Ice at the company owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc. BNSF operates roughly 32,500 miles of track in 28 states.
