Netflix reported its total energy consumption grew 84% in 2019.
The total was 451,000 megawatt-hours, which is equal to the amount of power for 40,000 average American homes for a year.
The amount comprises electricity Netflix uses itself and power needed to deliver streaming via third party services such as Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Company officials say 100% of the power usage was “matched with renewable energy certificates and carbon offsets in 2019.”
