Netflix customers get ready, higher prices are coming

Three years after Netflix increased its prices and sparked a painful backlash that savaged its share price, executives at the online-video service are once again testing various prices and streaming combinations beyond $7.99 per month for new members.

After leaving its basic monthly fee unchanged for several years, Netflix is exploring a new pricing structure ranging from a monthly $6.99 for streaming to one screen to $11.99 for four simultaneous streams, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
 
The company has already increased its prices in overseas markets, including Ireland, where the monthly fee went up by one euro. A 24-month grace period has been extended to existing customers before the higher prices kick in, and a similar grandfather clause is expected to ease U.S. customers into the new pricing, as well.
