The Neosho Area Business and Industrial Foundation is looking to use a 250-acre section of the Neosho Industrial Park for a federally designated foreign trade zone.
Officials say the application is about 60 days from completion. The designation comes from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to the Joplin Globe.
In foreign trade zones, companies and warehouses don't make duty payments until products leave the zone and officially enter U.S. commerce, the article said.
