Posted online

An idea to put the quality of vinyl records in a device that fits in your pocket garnered much fanfare during its first day on crowdfunding website Kickstarter, raising $1.4 million in 24 hours.

On Tuesday,  68-year-old rock star Neil Young unveiled his startup, Pono, at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, according to CNNMoney.

"It's about the music, the people who make the music, and the way it sounds to us while we're in the studio making it," Young said in a video on Pono's website. "It's about you hearing what we hear, and that hasn't happened in a long time."

The device had raised $1.78 million - topping its $800,000 goal - on Kickstarter as of 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
