Neera Tanden faces opposition as budget appointee

Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, is facing opposition over her nomination as director of the federal Office of Management and Budget.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, have said they would oppose her appointment. They cited tweets that have since been deleted in which Tanden criticized officials across the political spectrum.

“Neera Tanden has neither the experience nor the temperament to lead this critical agency," Collins said in a statement. "Her past actions have demonstrated exactly the kind of animosity that President [Joe] Biden has pledged to transcend."
