Navient agreed to cancel $1.7 billion in student loan debt.

The amount was revealed as part of a settlement with 39 state attorneys general.

Navient was accused of predatory loan practices, such as steering student borrowers into expensive forbearances over more flexible, income-driven repayment plans, according to NPR.
