National homeschool basketball tourney signs on until 2014

Organizers for the National Christian HomeSchool Basketball Championships have signed on for another three years in Springfield.

The organizers signed agreements with the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission to bring the six-day March tournament to Springfield in 2012, 2013 and 2014, according to a Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission news release. The championships are already scheduled for Springfield for 2011 - March 14-19, according to the NCHC Web site.

The tournament moved to Springfield from Oklahoma City in 2009, the release said.

According to the release, the tournament ushers in approximately 8,000 people to the city, books about 10,000 room nights at area hotels and brings in an estimated $3 to $4 million to city businesses.

Tournament dates are March 19-24, 2012; March 18-23, 2013; and March 17-22, 2014, the release said.
