Nasdaq names COO

Nasdaq Inc. CEO Robert Greifeld has appointed Adena Friedman to the newly created role of chief operating officer.

According to Fox Business, the move paves the way for Greifeld's retirement in 2017.

At that time, it is expected he would name Friedman CEO.

Currently co-president of the Nasdaq, Friedman would be the first woman to run a major U.S. stock market.
