Name change coming for Asbestos, Quebec

The town of Asbestos, Quebec, is ditching its name after it stopped mining the deadly mineral it's known for several years ago.

Residents next month are slated to vote on a new name. From 1,000 suggestions, the town's council presented four options: Jeffrey, the last name of the mine's first operator; Apalone, a turtle species; Phénix, a reference to the mythical bird; and Trois-Lacs, an Asbestos neighborhood.

City officials say investment in the community has been hard to come by because of the name.
