Nabholz to build new Springfield office

Nabholz Construction Corp. is building a new 7,000-square-foot office at 1936 E. St. Louis St. to replace the Conway, Arkansas-based company's current main Springfield office at 2223 W. Sunset St., company officials say.

“We're starting to outgrow our current space over here on Sunset, so we needed to start looking at other opportunities to get a space that's going to actually fit all of our employees,” said Jakob Mattox, a Springfield-based project manager for Nabholz. “It kind of came down to our presence in Springfield. We wanted to invest back into the city."

Mattox said Nabholz wants to be a part of community efforts toward revitalizing East St. Louis Street for more commercial development. Nabholz tore down an existing building at the nearly 1.5-acre site to make room for a new build, expected to be complete by late fall 2026, he said.

Meanwhile, the company is looking beyond that construction time frame in terms of how it will use the property. Mattox said a 2,500-square-foot "add-on" space will be initially built as a concrete slab covered with a canopy and made available for outdoor events, with infill planned for a later date when more offices are needed.

The main office space will be "modern and collaborative" with an open concept buttressed by huddle rooms equipped with technology to accommodate meetings, Mattox said. Additionally, the facility will have a multipurpose room to host internal training events, companywide meetings and community events.

Local partners working on the project include architect Arkifex Studios LLC, Joplin-based architecture firm Corner Greer & Associates Inc., the Ozark office of Cochran Engineering (civil), RTM Engineering Consultants LLC (structural) and CJD Engineering LLC (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), Mattox said.

Costs for acquiring the St. Louis Street property and building Nabholz' new facility were undisclosed.

The company expects to relocate its commercial construction and special projects divisions from its digs on West Sunset Street as the new facility becomes available. A separate Nabholz site, 1836 N. Eldon Ave., will continue as a base for Nabholz industrial services, Mattox said.

Roughly 40 to 45 employees will staff the new office, while Nabholz employs another 30 to 40 workers as Springfield-area field staff, Mattox said. A 2024 annual report by Nabholz published in February 2025 indicates the company has nearly 1,700 employees across 16 offices in seven states.

In fiscal 2024, Nabholz started almost 8,300 new construction projects, according to the report. This year, projects started include another new build, a new corporate headquarters for Nabholz' home office in Conway, comprising some 47,000 square feet. Mattox said the company is "on the up-and-up."

"We want to be the household name for building commercial properties in this region," Mattox said.
