Springfield entertainer Jeff Houghton is pivoting Springfield’s late-night talk show, “The Mystery Hour,” away from television.
Houghton, host of the show that filmed tapings at the Gillioz Theatre prior to the coronavirus pandemic, said in a blog post on Medium.com that he wants to spend more time with his family and other business endeavors.
"Like a lot of people, it gave me perspective for where I truly wanted to put my energy," he said of the pandemic.
The show will continue to be held live at the Gillioz on a quarterly basis, he said. The series finale taping is scheduled June 18 at the Gillioz, capping off 10 seasons and 225 episodes, according to TheMysteryHour.com.
"The Mystery Hour" has hosted myriad celebrity guests, including actors Leslie David Baker of "The Office," Samm Levine of “Freaks and Geeks,” Michael McMillian of “True Blood” and Jay Jackson of “Parks and Recreation.” The show in 2019 teamed up with nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to erase $2.7 million worth of medical debt in the Ozarks.
"'The Mystery Hour' was always built to swing for the fences. I’m so proud of how we’ve always done that," Houghton said in the blog post.
Houghton said he also would continue to focus on the Writers’ Room marketing agency, which he launched March 3 with comedy as its focus.
The Kebab Shack opened; Hitch Goods launched; and The War Zone Springfield moved.
