Big changes to the new model of an American classic have not only broadened its appeal, they’ve also turbo-charged sales.
Ford moved 12,663 units of its 2015 Mustang in March, a sales increase of 36.1 percent. In the first three months of the year, sales of the model have increased 52.1 percent, representing 29,811 cars sold.
The leap forward in sales is due in part to newfound appeal for improvements Ford made to the vehicle’s fuel economy and safety, as well as mechanical updates such as independent rear suspension, traction control and the company’s EcoBoost engine, according to USA Today.
Dodge came in second with total sales of its comparable Challenger model, topping out at 5,956 in March. The 25.2 percent increase may have gotten a boost from excitement surrounding its new 707-horsepower offering.
Despite selling 29,811 cars, sales of Chevrolet’s Camaro dropped 30.9 percent in March. A new model is expected later this year.
