Musk makes $43B offer for Twitter

Elon Musk, an outspoken user of Twitter who recently upgraded his stake in the company, now is offering to buy the social media network.

Musk's offer values Twitter at $43 billion. Through the deal, he wants to take the company private.

"I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy," Musk wrote in a letter sent to Twitter Chair Bret Taylor.
