Musk demands larger stake in Tesla to continue AI work

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is demanding a larger stake in the company in exchange for working on artificial intelligence products.

“I am uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in A.I. & robotics without having ~25% voting control," Musk said on X. "Enough to be influential, but not so much that I can’t be overturned. Unless that is the case, I would prefer to build products outside of Tesla."

Musk currently owns 13% of Tesla. An additional 12% would be worth $83 billion at its current share price, The New York Times reports.
