Multistate scam targets car sellers on Craigslist

Posted online
An organized scam targeting people who are selling used cars on Craigslist has hit nearly 100 people, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Targeting people in the Midwest - with many in the Chicago area - the scammers give bank checks for the purchase that appear to be legitimate but actually are bogus. That's after the seller has signed over the title and given the buyer the car, according to CNNMoney

In many of the cases, victims still owe money on loans or the vehicles, so they are required to continue paying interest even after the vehicle is gone.
