Multimillion dollar Weaver Road project begins

Posted online
A $2.4 million Weaver Road project is scheduled to begin today, which would widen the road from Cloverdale Street in Battlefield to Golden Avenue in Springfield, according to a Greene County news release.

The Greene County Highway Department has committed to widening Weaver Road to three lanes, adding a center turn lane, realigning portions to improve sharp curves, installing curb and gutter storm inlets and constructing sidewalks. The project is expected to take about eight months to complete.

Contractor Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. will begin placing work zone signs today in preparation for gas, water and sanitary sewer installation scheduled for the next few weeks, the release said.

The Greene County Highway Department has scheduled the bulk of construction to take place during the summer months in order to minimize school disruptions along the work zone. Weaver Road will be closed for an estimated three weeks during the summer, and it also will be repaved, causing sections of the road to be closed during the process.

A relocation and widening project of the Weaver Road and Campbell Avenue intersection also is in the works.

The Greene County Commission approved a $121.3 million budget Jan. 25, which included $3.8 million for the Weaver Road improvements.
