MSU wraps $80M addition to Roy Blunt Hall

Missouri State University has scheduled a dedication ceremony to recognize the completion of an $80 million, 77,000-square-foot addition to Roy Blunt Hall, an academic building on its Springfield campus.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 12 at the 910 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway building, according to a news release. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. served as general contractor for the project, which was designed by Kansas City-based BNIM.

Roy Blunt Hall, which previously was Temple Hall, is home to MSU's College of Natural and Applied Sciences.

"We had outgrown the building and were using closets for labs," said Tamera Jahnke, CNAS dean, in the release. "Now we have the facilities our students and faculty deserve, and science is truly on display."

The addition at Roy Blunt Hall is part of a larger project that also includes renovations to the original building, and officials say the renovations are expected to be completed by the end of summer 2026. MSU’s website points to a total project budget of $96.5 million for the addition and renovation.

Funding for the project includes $30 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration, $19.8 million from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and $30.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds through the state of Missouri, according to the release.
