MSU tuition to rise 3.5 percent this fall

Posted online
The Missouri State University Board of Governors on Friday approved a 3.5 percent tuition increase – the lowest hike in seven years.

Basic fees for undergraduate resident students for the 2007–2008 school year will increase to $179 per credit hour from $173. Out-of-state undergraduate fees will increase to $349 from $337 per credit hour.

Tuition for graduate students will increase to $206 from $199 for resident students and to $402 from $388 for nonresident students.

The board also voted to increase room-and-board costs by between 4.5 percent and 5 percent, depending on the type of residence.

Officials say the increases are consistent with inflation.

Also Friday, the board approved the Missouri State Promise Scholarship, offered to first-time freshmen and associate-degree transfer students who are at or below the poverty level. The scholarship, available this fall, will pay the difference between tuition and required fees and any grant or gift aid a student receives.

The university also will pay scholarship recipients up to $800 annually for books.[[In-content Ad]]
