MSU to renew upper-level employment contracts

Missouri State University has renewed its employment agreements with three of its top administrators. Subject to MSU Board of Governors approval at its meeting scheduled this afternoon, the new agreements would become effective July 1.

The upper-level executives are Provost Frank Einhellig, MSU-West Plains Chancellor Drew Bennett and Director of Athletics Kyle Moats, according to a news release.

Provost position
Serving as interim provost from July 1, 2011, to Jan. 1, 2013, when he was named to the position permanently, Einhellig's new agreement extends his employment through June 30, 2016.

He would be paid a 2014-15 salary of $217,413, which includes a 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment, according to the release.

Einhellig has worked at MSU since 1992, when he joined as associate vice president for academic affairs and research and later became associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the school's graduate college. He also is a professor of biology.

West Plains
Bennett was named chancellor of MSU-West Plains in July 2007 for a five-year term, and had his employment contract renewed for two additional years in 2012. Today, the board will vote on another four years to extend his contract through June 30, 2018, the release said.

Including a 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment, his 2014-15 salary would be $158,401. He would continue to have use of the chancellor's residence, a country club membership and an entertainment expense account. If Bennett completes the four-year agreement, he would quality for a retention bonus of $40,000.

Bennett brought to MSU 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 2007 as a colonel, according to the release.

Athletics contract
The board will vote today on whether to extend Moats' contract indefinitely. He was named director of ahtletics in July 2009.

For the new agreement, he would be paid $160,302, which includes the 1.5 percent cost of living adjustment. He also is eligible for country club membership and achievement payments based on athlete's academic achievements, conference placements, appearance in NCAA tournaments and attendance at games, the release said.

Moats joined MSU after serving 2005-09 as director of athletic for national marketing at University of Louisville.
