Through AmeriCorps*Vista, or Volunteers in Service to America, a Vista member will be placed at each participating campus to assess community needs and help each school’s faculty build civic engagements through service learning, according to an MSU news release. Relevant classes at each school will be linked with community agencies that intend to eradicate poverty and assist single women with children.
MSU will lead the statewide effort through its Missouri Campus Compact office. Additional Vista members will be placed at Cottey College, Truman State University, University of Missouri-St. Louis, St. Louis Community College-Meramec, Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City, North Central Missouri College and Missouri Southern State University, as well as two other schools yet to be named.
Missouri Campus Compact, a member organization of college and university presidents established to strengthen civic engagement partnerships, will implement the program. It is slated to begin in July.
