MSU to institute modest tuition bump

Posted online
The Missouri State University Board of Governors today is expected to approve a slight increase in student tuition and fees.

If approved, undergraduate resident tuition for the 2016-17 academic year would rise $1 to $206 per credit hour. Undergraduate tuition for out-of-state and graduate students would rise 1.4 percent, according to a news release.

“By keeping our tuition low, we are making higher education a priority in the region and preparing more students to become global citizens,” MSU President Clif Smart said in the release.

The Missouri Higher Education Student Funding Act prohibits higher education institutions from increasing the costs of tuition and fees by more than the Consumer Price Index, which is projected to increase by 0.7 percent in fiscal 2017.

At MSU, student services fees would rise by $8 per semester for students enrolled in at least seven credit hours, according to the release.

Housing costs - combined room and board expenses - will not exceed 3.25 percent this fall, MSU officials said.
