Posted online
Two Missouri State University staff members have received a $145,450 grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Vickie Sanchez, director of the MSU Master of Public Health program, and Susan Dollar, director of the university's School of Social Work, received the grant, which will be used to implement and evaluate an abstinence education program in southwest Missouri, according to a news release.

The grant will be used for curriculum development and training, and costs for personnel, materials, travel and supplies and program evaluation. The grant allows approximately 1,200 seventh- through ninth-grade students, 20 to 40 parents and 20 to 30 teen mothers to receive education through the program. According to the release, the program will place a special focus on the Hispanic population.

“I am quite pleased with the interdisciplinary nature of this award. We are collaborating with numerous school and community partners,” Sanchez said in the release.[[In-content Ad]]
