The 2008 total increased 11 percent from the FY 07 amount of $21.7 million. About $13.1 million of the 2008 funding came from federal sources, up 4 percent from the previous year’s federal funding total, according to a university news release.
State funding increased 20 percent to $6.2 million, while business donations increased 32 percent to $1.7 million. The remaining funds came from nonprofit organizations, international sources, counties and cities.
“Our faculty, staff and administrators work hard to compete for these funds,” said Jim Baker, the university’s vice president for research and economic development, in the release. “The fact that we’ve been able to bring these crucial dollars to Missouri State is a testament to both the quality and quantity of work that is produced at this university.”
Baker said the university received 141 grants in FY 08. The College of Natural and Applied Sciences received the most awards – 47, totaling $2.5 million – while the department of research and economic development received the most funding, at $12.5 million. Most of that money went to the Jordan Valley Innovation Center.
