The Missouri State University Board of Directors has chosen administrator Jim Baker as the second recipient of a five-year-old endowed leadership chair.
Baker, MSU vice president for research and economic development and international programs, was selected during the board's March 8 meeting to hold the University Leadership Chair, a two-year designation that includes $2,500 per year in supplemental pay, according to a news release.
Established in 2008 to honor leadership at the university, the chair was first given to former MSU President Michael Nietzel.
"While we have many great members on the administrative team, I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Jim," MSU President Clif Smart said in the release.
Baker has helped to lead efforts behind the cultivation of IDEA Commons, an MSU-led movement focused on bringing together innovation, design, entrepreneurship and the arts in 88 center city acres. He also works to recruit international students and examine emerging markets for potential partnership.
Baker joined MSU in 1993 as assistant to former President John Keiser, the release said.
