McHaney, who starts Aug. 28, will fill the position vacated by John McAlear, a certified public accountant who retired July 1 after more than 27 years of service. Since his retirement, McAlear has continued in a part-time capacity as secretary to the board.
McHaney earned a bachelor of business administration in accounting from St. Mary’s University and a master of business administration from the University of Southern California.
McHaney is a certified public accountant, a certified internal auditor and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society. She has more than 13 years in the internal audit profession.
“The search committee was impressed by Ms. McHaney’s credentials, experience and ideas expressed during the interview process,” Kent Kay, chief financial officer at MSU, said in a news release. “We are looking forward to the new ideas, approaches and processes she will bring from her varied experiences in the corporate work setting.”
As director, McHaney will administer the internal audit activity of the university by performing audits of academic and administrative departments and activities and by developing a comprehensive program of audit coverage. She will also serve as the school’s official custodian of public records.
