The College of Natural and Applied Sciences topped the list of academic colleges, receiving 97 awards that totaled $2.7 million.
Other academic colleges that reached $1 million were: the College of Education, $1.4 million; the College of Health and Human Services, $1.25 million; and the College of Humanities and Public Affairs, $1.2 million.
In all, MSU received $16.6 million in award funding for the year from a total of 239 faculty and staff grants and contracts, a 7 percent increase from last year. The amount of funding sought also set a record at $49.8 million, a 28 percent increase from last year.
Academic Affairs, now called the Office of the Provost, received almost half of the acquired funding in seven awards totaling $8 million.
Most of the office’s awards were given to the Center for Applied Science and Engineering from the U.S. Army Defense Command Agency to renovate a downtown building into the Jordan Valley Innovation Center. At the center, students and faculty will work with technology companies in conducting defense-related research, development and manufacturing.
About $11.9 million of total funding was from federal agencies, setting a new record. Funding from county and city agencies was $489,495, an increase of 70 percent from last year. Funding from nonprofit agencies totaled $1.3 million, and funding from state agencies totaled $2.8 million.
