About a year before its deadline, the Missouri State University Our Promise fundraising campaign has exceeded its goal of $125 million.
The campaign, which launched in August 2009 with a deadline of Dec. 31, 2012, to date has raised roughly $134.5 million, according to a Jan. 26 news release from the MSU Foundation, the school's fundraising arm.
“The campaign’s success speaks to the strong feelings our alumni and friends have toward Missouri State University,” MSU Interim President Clif Smart said in the release. “That is very gratifying. And, given the state’s difficult budget situation, the successful campaign comes at a particularly good time to help ensure we continue to provide a highest possible education experience for the next generation of leaders and citizens.”
Through the Our Promise campaign, the MSU Foundation has received more than 209,000 donations from nearly 70,000 donors, with about half of them giving to the school for the first time. The campaign has resulted in the creation of more than 300 new scholarships.
Significant gifts were contributed to help fund construction of several campus facilities, including McQueary Family Health Sciences Hall, Greenwood Science Scholars Wing, Darr Agricultural Center, Journagan Ranch, JQH Arena, the Foster Family University Recreation Center, the Robert W. Plaster Center for Free Enterprise and Business Development and Gohn Hall on the West Plains campus, the release said.
Since Gov. Jay Nixon's
proposed fiscal 2013 budget calls for $89 million in cuts for four-year higher education institutions, members of the campaign's steering committee have decided to continue the campaign through the original deadline.
