Carey Adams, dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Missouri State University and 20-year employee, has resigned to take a job as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga.
Adams will continue with the MSU post until he begins his new job on July 1, according to a news release.
"Carey will continue to fully function in his dean’s position for the next seven months," Interim Provost Frank Einhellig said in the release. "His leadership has brought stability and a positive direction to the college.
"He has been very effective in building a sense of common purpose across the departments of the college and in enhancing interactions with the Springfield community."
Einhellig added that the university is weighing its options for filling the role but did not set a timeline, saying it's "a process that should not be rushed."
Adams, a professor of communication, has worked at MSU for two decades. He became dean of the College of Arts and Letters in June 2007 after serving as head of the department of communication since 2001.
“Missouri State and the College of Arts and Letters have been very good to me,” Adams said in the release. “Just as our graduates leave here as reflections of what a fine institution we have, I hope I can represent MSU well to others by sharing what I have learned here.”[[In-content Ad]]
