MSU construction program gets accreditation

Posted online
The construction management program at Missouri State University has been granted accreditation by the American Council for Construction Education, following an on-site evaluation in late 2005.

ACCE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the national accrediting agency for construction education programs. ACCE accreditation recognizes institutions that achieve and maintain a high level of performance, integrity and quality. Only 58 universities in the United States are accredited by the council.

The accreditation is a big help for graduates of the MSU program as they seek work, according to Shawn Strong, head of MSU’s industrial management department.

“Many companies around the country only recruit from ACCE-accredited programs,” Strong said in a news release. “This accreditation will open even more doors for construction management graduates who, even without the accreditation, presently enjoy the highest average starting salaries of any major on the Missouri State campus. ACCE accreditation puts us on the map, so to speak.”

The program also recently won first and second place at the Region IV Associated Schools of Construction competition and was awarded a significant endowment from the employee-owners of McBride and Son Homes in St. Louis.
