MSU celebrates anniversary of name change

Posted online
Missouri State University today will hold a birthday party in commemoration of its first year under a new name.

The university, which changed its name from Southwest Missouri State University last August, will provide cake, games and live entertainment 4:30–7:30 p.m. in front of Plaster Student Union on the MSU campus. MSU staff, faculty, students and their families are invited.

The event will start with a free barbecue, highlighted by performances from the MSU marching band, Sugar Bears and cheerleading squad.

President Michael Nietzel will address the crowd and recognize the oldest retired faculty member, Ivan Calton, emeritus professor of finance and general business, who worked at the university from 1945 to 1979. Nietzel also will recognize J. T. Woodruff III, the grandson of one of MSU’s founding fathers.

Attendees are encouraged to bring diapers and other baby supplies – in keeping with the “first birthday” theme – to donate to the Family Violence Center.

In the case of rain, the event will be moved to the Grand Lounge inside Blair-Shannon residence hall.[[In-content Ad]]
