MSU breaks ground for JQH Arena

Posted online
Construction has officially started on Missouri State University’s $67 million JQH Arena.

University officials broke ground on the 11,000-seat venue Thursday with Springfield developer John Q. Hammons and representatives from the arena’s design team – Ellerbe Becket and Pellham Phillips – and its construction management firm, JE Dunn.

Hammons is the arena’s namesake, having committed $30 million for its construction.

The arena will be located on the parking lot east of Hammons Student Center. Completion is scheduled for November 2008, in time for the 2008-09 basketball season.

Features include 22 private suites, more than 100 loge seats, 55 courtside seats, a Hall of Fame, a team souvenir store and a ticket office.
