The Missouri State University Board of Governors today will vote on $3.1 million in facilities improvements in Springfield.
The largest project under consideration is an elevator renovation at the university’s downtown Kentwood Hall dormitory with a $2 million budget, according to the
board’s agenda for the 4 p.m. executive committee meeting.
Carson-Mitchell Inc. submitted the lowest bid of $1.7 million for the project, which calls on replacing the existing elevator at the six-floor residence hall, installing new stairs and a back-up generator, and addressing a first-floor water infiltration issue.
The majority of cost would be paid for from the residence life refurbishing budget, with the remaining $3,395 from the submittal exchange reserves, according to the agenda.
Beachwood, Ohio-based Tremco Inc. submitted a $584,656 base bid for a roof replacement and repair project at MSU’s downtown Jim D. Morris Center. The project has a total budget of $650,000. Under an educational and institutional cooperative contract MSU holds with Tremco, St. Louis-based Kirberg Co. would perform the roof replacement and Springfield-based Atkins Weatherproofing would repair masonry.
The contract calls on repairs to stop water infiltration at the Morris international services building, 301 S. Jefferson Ave. MSU’s fiscal 2017 operating maintenance and repair budget would cover $425,000 of the project, with the rest paid for via the fiscal 2016 budget.
A proposal with a $300,000 budget would award a contract for the replacement of flooring and weight room equipment at Robert W. Plaster Stadium. Legend Fitness submitted a $269,924 bid for the project to be funded via private donations and the president’s program enhancement budget, according to the agenda.
The board of governors also is scheduled to vote on whether to award Sunbelt Environmental Services Inc. a contract to remove asbestos at Ellis Hall prior to a planned renovation of the academic building. The Springfield company’s base bid is $69,825, and the project budget is $130,000. It would be paid for through state capital improvements funding passed in House Bill 19, according to the agenda.
The board also will vote today on a $386,000 contract with Dake Wells Architecture that would make the Springfield firm a consultant on renovations and expansions at MSU’s West Plains campus.
