MSU board meets Friday

Posted online
Missouri State University’s Board of Governors at its meeting tomorrow is expected to vote on the school’s proposed operating budget for next year, as well as a number of new programs and another step in the development of JQH Arena.

On the agenda for the monthly meeting – this month held at MSU’s Mountain Grove campus – is consideration of the 2006-2007 internal operating budget. The resolution proposes $135.1 million in operating revenues, $208.3 million in operating expenditures, $74.7 million in net nonoperating revenues and $5 million in nonrecurring budget allocations.

Also up for consideration will be the addition of new degree and certificate programs, including a Master of Science in student affairs, a Master of Science in project management, a Bachelor of Arts in global studies, a Bachelor of Science in entrepreneurship and several graduate certificate programs.

The board will hear a resolution asking for approval of a consultant for geotechnical investigative services for JQH Arena, for which construction is slated to begin in December.

The consultant would provide sampling of the subsurface soil conditions and other information needed to design the arena’s foundation.

MSU earlier this month selected Kansas City-based JE Dunn to manage construction of the project and in May chose Kansas City-based Ellerbe Becket to lead the arena’s programming phase.

Also Friday, the board will consider the establishment of a Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences at MSU. The center would complement the Center for Applied Science and Engineering and operate under the Jordan Valley Innovation Center.
