MSU board approves $650K in repairs

The Missouri State University Board of Governors yesterday approved two repair projects with budgets in the hundreds of thousands.

The actions pave the way for a roof replacement on a portion of the Professional Building and repairs to Strong Hall. The projects have combined budgets of $650,000 and are being paid for by the school’s operating maintenance and repair fund, according to the board’s April 20 agenda.

The Professional Building project carries the largest budget, at $350,000. The property houses the departments of biomedical sciences, communication sciences and disorders, nursing, and sports medicine and athletic training.

Under a cooperative purchasing group, Millstadt, Ill.-based Shay Roofing Inc. will perform the reroofing work on the northwest section of the building.

The contract calls on the removal of roofing installed in 1987 that is leaking, as well as the installation of a new roof and weatherproofing materials. The project is expected to wrap by the fall semester, according to the board agenda.

With the board’s approval yesterday, the school enters a contract with Springfield-based Direct Roof Services for the repairs to Strong Hall. The project budget is $300,000.

Direct Roof Services is contracted to repair and replace leaking gutters and parapets for the building that houses the College of Humanities and Public Affairs. The work is scheduled to be completed by the fall.
