Missouri State University is adding a new doctoral program.
The Doctor of Education in Leadership, Learning and Education Change is the first doctoral degree that will be offered by the university's College of Education, according to a news release. The degree program is slated to roll out in fall 2025.
“This degree is for individuals who want to assume leadership in not just schools, but also in universities and education-related nonprofits,” said Nicole West, the program’s director and an associate professor in the College of Education, in the release. “This degree is less about any particular educational institutional type as it is about impacting and transforming education.”
The new doctoral program is a 55-credit hour degree that's part time, seated and cohort based, officials say. It's designed to be completed in three years.
"This curriculum was built with adult learners and working professionals in mind,” West added in the release. “It can be tailored to each student’s specific interests and aspirations.”
The new program's launch additionally means MSU has been invited to join the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate. The initiative, officials say, is composed of 135 institutional members who are working to redesign professional practice preparation in education.
