Nominees should have strong ties to the community, state or region, according to an MSU news release. Preference is given to distinguished candidates who have not been widely recognized and honored, the release said.
MSU staff, faculty, administration and Board of Governors members, as well as elected officials currently in office, are not eligible.
Four types of honorary doctorate can be given: Doctor of Humane Letters, Doctor of Letters, Doctor of Public Affairs and Doctor of Science.
All nominations are confidential and should include a formal letter with detailed information on the nominee’s qualifications, including education, publications and community service. Nominations can be sent to Paula Kemp, Honorary Doctorate Committee chair, MSU department of mathematics, 901 S. National Ave., Springfield, MO 65897.
Past honorary doctorate recipients are Sister Lorraine Biebel, Harold Bengsch, David Harrison, Pat Walker, Jim Craig, Annie Busch, Nancy Brown Dornan and Sue Savage-Rumbaugh.
