The Missouri Society of Professional Engineers Educational Foundation Inc. was established Jan. 15, 1968 as at not-for-profit corporation as a way for the member engineer or their family to make charitable contributions to the profession, according to the foundation's Web site.
The foundation is housed at 200 E. McCarty St. in Jefferson City in a building donated in 1994 by Kansas City civic leader Jerome Cohen and his wife, Jeannette.
The Springfield professional design/ construction team of Pellham Phillips Hagerman Architects-Engineers helped transform the building's original structure into a design that projects the technical and professional image of engineering in a classic way.
The foundation's activities strive to:
provide scholarships at Missouri engineering schools, approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, for qualified applicants;
promote the study of engineering through quality programs like the "Mathcounts" competitive study and testing program for seventh and eighth-graders;
develop sound investment strategies that will enable the building to become a revenue producing asset that will encourage and enhance access to excellent engineering education curriculums and successful engineering careers.
