Mother’s Brewing Co. partnered with The Coffee Ethic and Askinosie Chocolate to create two limited-edition beers.
The brews - to be debuted this weekend at Mother’s - represent six months worth of collaboration, according to a news release.
David Soper, head cellarman at Mother’s and a former barista at Coffee Ethic, said coffee store owner Tom Billionis actively was involved in the project. Billionis
died at age 44 on April 16 after suffering a health emergency while running on the Sac River Trail.
“I’m deeply saddened that he didn’t get to see this project become a reality, but it’s an incredible piece of his legacy that we all get to enjoy,” Soper said in the release.
The beers are dubbed Rated R and Rated PG.
Rated R is an imperial wheat stout with an alcohol by volume measure of 11.5 percent. It’s made with Burundi cold brew coffee from The Coffee Ethic, Askinosie cocoa nibs from Honduras and Madagascar vanilla beans, according to the release.
The second beer is a 5 percent cream ale, featuring Ecuadorian coffee and chocolate, as well as Tahitian vanilla.
The beers are not Mother’s Brewing’s first coffee venture. The company also releases its seasonal Winter Grind with
flavors from Mudhouse Inc.’s roasted coffee beans.
Part of Mother’s five-year anniversary celebration, the new beers will be available at the Mother’s tasting room, 215 S. Grant Ave., at 4 p.m May 13. Rated PG also will be served May 14 for the annual Mother’s Day Festival, according to the release.
Last month, Mother’s unveiled new labels for its year-round selections and introduced a new beer called Blush, a pomegranate hibiscus Belgian wheat ale.
