Moody’s chief economist says US is on 'edge of recession'

Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody's Analytics, said that the U.S. is on the “edge of recession.”

“Based on my assessment of various data, states making up nearly a third of U.S. GDP are either in or at high risk of recession, another third are just holding steady, and the remaining third are growing,” Zandi said in a post on X.

Zandi pointed to the greater Washington, D.C., area, where tens of thousands of federal jobs have been cut this year, as an example of a regional economy that is slowing.
