Montana-based franchise to open at Battlefield Mall

Montana-based HuHot Mongolian Grill's branding gives a nod to Ghengis Khan. Like Khan, the HuHot Web site says, the company sees the world as ripe for conquest.

And on Dec. 12, HuHot is hoping to take over a share of the Springfield restaurant market.

Franchisees Mona and Leron Wagner have signed a 10-year lease with the Battlefield Mall for the lifestyle center space formerly occupied by J. Buck's restaurant, Mona Wagner said.

Osage Beach-based Construction Concepts Corporation South began renovations on the 81,073-square-foot space in mid-October. The remodel, including furniture, fixtures and equipment, is expected to cost $770,000, Wagner said.

The couple has owned a HuHot franchise in Kalispell, Mont. for two and a half years. The Wagners became acquainted with Springfield through frequent visits to the area while their son, Curtis Wagner, attended Evangel University. Mona Wagner said her research on the local restaurant scene supported her decision to open a franchise in Springfield.

"Restaurants work here," she said.

The Wagners will maintain ownership of the Kalispell franchise as well. Mona and Leron will live and work in Springfield and Curtis will manage the Montana business.

Hiring for the Springfield restaurant has already begun. Wagner said she expects to hire 125 people; approximately 50 of those jobs will be full-time.

HuHot currently has locations in 12 states, including two others in Missouri.[[In-content Ad]]
